5 reasons to visit Lanzarote
Interview with surf instructor Luciano
We will make your kite experience unforgettable!
Our goal is for you to enjoy this amazing sport as much as we do!
We have made a short video for you to get a glimpse of what a kite day with us would consist of. Juan, the main kitesurf instructor, will help you learn everything you need to know to enjoy the sport from day one.
Our greatest joy is seeing the excitement in our students’ eyes with each new breakthrough, to see that at the end of the course they come out sliding with the board and can practice the sport safely. Especially, the energy boost when they finish on their third day doing their first manoeuvres.
What is kitesurfing?
With kitesurfing, we combine sailing with board sliding, which allows us to enjoy the feeling of the wind and its speed while playing with the board to make jumps and manoeuvres.
Where are the classes held?
The kite classes are imparted in Famara Beach, a perfect spot to practice the sport at all levels. At mid-tide, the waters grow into lagoons which allow us to practice in flat water. The small waves on the shore help build up the confidence to later dive into deeper waters and find stronger waves in which we can surf and practice jumps.
How long does it take for someone to stand up?
The truth is that it is a subjective question because everyone learns at a different pace, but we do try to set some times in a generic way. We have witnessed students who in a matter of 40 minutes were already testing the board and who in 1:30-2 hours were already practising on the water. However, these are exceptional cases.
For beginners, the average time is three days. With three classes they can understand the wind, learn how to steer the kite and begin practising their first moves and manoeuvres.
Usually, on the first day, we focus on teaching safety measures, how to control the kite and how to relaunch it from the water. During the second day, we reinforce these skills with the regular bar with long lines and we introduce the board in the water. On the third day, probably the most exciting, the majority of our students are already sliding the first few meters.
Safety during class
We centre our attention on making you feel comfortable and safe during class so you can progress with confidence. Every class we perform some drills where we rehearse all the safety measures and practice possible outcomes that we may face during the training. You will learn how to foresee what the kite is going to do and know how to anticipate it.
