Intermediate Surf Lessons

More fun and flow in surfing

What will I learn?

  • The surf course for intermediates paves the way from passive gliding to active surfing
  • Improve or learn basic manoeuvres such as the bottom turn, top turns, cutbacks and the duck dive
  • Learn how to generate speed and choose the right manoeuvres to avoid losing it.
  • Improve your paddling technique so you surf more and paddle less.
  • Learn to read waves better and learn advanced take-off techniques that will help you minimise wipeouts.

How does it work?

  • A short assessment on the beach will help us determine your surfing level so that you are placed in the group that best suits your goals.
  • Depending on your skills and goals, we will help you focus on the right exercises, on the beach and in the water.
  • We will help you choose the right equipment that will enhance your development and not hinder it.

How quickly will I progress?

It is difficult to predict how many lessons someone will need to improve. Some students improve significantly after 3 lessons, others need 10 or more. The average is somewhere between 5 and 10 lessons.

As you know, surfing is highly dependent on weather conditions, so we always recommend visiting us for a longer period — at least a week or two. The longer you stay with us, the better you will surf!

Our Surf Instructors

All our surf instructors are skilled and professional, certified by the International Surfing Association (ISA) and the Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS).

We keep our groups small, always working to a maximum of eight students per instructor, in keeping with the recommendation of the ISA. Meet our team here.

Equipment

Surfboards:  In our intermediate surf courses you have the option of using any board that our surf school has available. However, we will always try to encourage our students to use soft surfboards with soft fins to avoid injuries.

Wetsuits: Your body will be protected (from the sea, the board, and the sun!) with one of our high-quality wetsuits from top brands including Rip Curl, Quiksilver and Roxy.

The sun here in Lanzarote is strong, therefore we recommend applying high-factor water-resistant sunscreen to the exposed parts of your skin. Sunscreen is available in our surf shop if you forget to bring your own.

What you need to bring

  • You need to bring your swimwear, flip-flops, sunscreen, water, and a towel
  • Please arrive for lessons with your swimming clothes on and sun cream applied. Preparing for the lesson can be very time-consuming if everyone has to take turns in the washroom.
  • You are ensured during the lesson. If you need to carry any medication, please take it to the beach and let your surf instructor know how to handle it in an emergency.

Hotel transfer

Free hotel transfer can be arranged if you’re not staying with us in Famara. Contact us to arrange the details. Available for 4-hour surf lessons only.

The short option: 2-hour surf lessons

The two-hour lesson starts at 10 am at the surf school and finishes at 12.30 pm on the beach. You will have to make your way back. The journey to the village will take about a 5-10 minute walk along the beach. Video analysis and concluding feedback are only included in the 4-hour lessons.

The schedule of the lessons is subject to change due to tides

Once your booking has been confirmed, you will receive detailed information. We strongly recommend that you add yourself to our WhatsApp group for lessons. You won’t be pestered with messages, at most once a day, to let you know the start of the lesson the next day if the schedule changes. If there are no messages, everything is on track as stated in the initial confirmation.
